What is Garden Expo?Garden Expo 2011

Garden Expo is a community educational event and fundraiser hosted by Wisconsin Public Television and the UW-Extension Horticulture Team. This event also is a companion to WPT's popular program The Wisconsin Gardener. Attendees enjoy dozens of educational seminars, demonstrations and a fantastic vendor mall with the latest garden products.

GARDEN EXPO JOBS
 

Garden Expo would not be possible without the helping hands of almost 220 volunteers who work together to set up the show, sell tickets, assist presenters, check in volunteers and much much more!

* = Seated Job. All other jobs involve standing/walking.

Demo Assistant: Help set up stage presentations, monitor seating, distribute handouts, check sound levels, take attendance and assist with clean up as needed.

Exhibitor Check-In: Greet exhibitors, hand out ingress packets and direct them to their assigned booth location on the exhibition hall floor. 

Exhibitor Entrance Attendant: Monitor traffic flow near the back doors of the Exhibition Hall.  Ensure that visitors have valid exhibitor or volunteer passes, answer basic show questions and provide directions to the locations of events and show facilities.

Floater: Volunteers will be given a job assignment to fill openings due to cancellations, unfilled positions and other staffing needs.

Greeter: Welcome visitors to Garden Expo. Direct attendees to entry gates, ticket booths, classrooms, demos and exhibitor booths. Hand out programs and answer basic questions about the show.

Handstamper: Provide hand stamps to visitors that would like to re-enter the show and answer general event questions.

Volunteers at workQuilt Expo Booth:* At spring Garden Expo promote fall Quilt Expo, answer general questions about the show, hand out literature and encourage visitors to participate in the prize drawing.

Raffle and Information Desk:* Give directions and answer questions about Garden Expo using information sheets we provide.  Sell raffle tickets.

Seminar Assistant: Welcome guests, adjust lighting levels, keep presenters on schedule, distribute handouts and evaluation forms, make announcements, take attendance, manage traffic flow and assist where needed.

Volunteers at workTicket Sales:* Greet attendees and sell tickets in the front or back lobby of the Exhibition Hall.  Answer basic questions and direct visitors to seminars, exhibitor booths, food stations and Alliant Energy Center amenities.

Volunteer Check-In:* Greet volunteers, hand them their name badges and direct them to training and orientation in the volunteer lounge.

Workshop Assistant:  Help set up workshops, distribute materials, assist participants with projects and lend a hand with clean up.

When and where is Garden Expo?

Feb. 7, 8, 9, 2014 in the Exhibition Hall at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.

What type of time commitment is involved?

Volunteer shifts range from 2-4 hours depending on the position.

What is the minimum age to volunteer?

The minimum age to volunteer at Garden Expo is 16.
