Patty Loew
Patty Loew

Patty Loew was a producer for Wisconsin Public Television and host of In Wisconsin until May 2011. Loew is now a full-time professor of Life Sciences and Communication for the UW-Madison College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Loew previously co-hosted WPT's award-winning WeekEnd program that aired statewide for 10 years. Before coming to WPT, she worked as a news anchor and reporter for Madison's WKOW-TV where she did environmental reporting, documentary production, public speaking and special projects. Loew also was a feature reporter at KATU-TV in Portland, Ore. She co-hosted PM Magazine in Spokane, Wash., and was a news anchor and reporter for WXOW-TV and WKTY-AM and WSPL-FM radio in La Crosse.

Loew is a member of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe and award-winning author of "Indian Nations of Wisconsin: Histories of Endurance and Renewal." The book won the Wisconsin Library Association's 2002 Outstanding Book Award. Her second book, "Native People of Wisconsin," won the 2003 Best Juvenile Non-fiction Award from the Wisconsin Writers Council. Her documentary, Way of the Warrior, which received the 2008 Unity Award from the Radio and Television News Directors Association, aired on PBS stations across the country in the fall of 2007. Her freelance feature articles and guest columns have appeared in The Capital Times, Madison Magazine and the Wisconsin State Journal.

She has authored numerous scholarly and general interest articles on Native American topics and produced several award-winning documentaries, which have appeared on commercial and public television stations throughout the country. Among the many awards Loew has received for her work, is a Media Excellence Award, several Best of Madison awards, an Orchid Award, the Writer's Cup Award and the Portland Mayor's Award.

Joel Waldinger
Joel Waldinger

Joel Waldinger manages an experienced team of reporters, producers and videographers responsible for the weekly news magazine show In Wisconsin.  In this position, he oversees production of the award-winning weekly half-hour program that focuses on Wisconsin life, culture and the environment.

Before coming to WPT in 2008, Waldinger was assistant news director at WISC-TV in Madison. He also held the positions of news director at WGBA-TV in Green Bay and executive producer at KSTP-TV in Minneapolis.  Waldinger's work has earned a national Edward R. Murrow Award and five regional Emmy Awards for feature reporting, a sports program, spot news coverage and a healthcare special.  In addition, his news teams have won more than 100 local and regional awards under his leadership. Waldinger is a graduate of Illinois State University.

Frederica Freyberg
Frederica Freyberg

Frederica Freyberg is a reporter for In Wisconsin and anchor of Here and Now on Wisconsin Public Television. After nearly twenty years as a commercial television reporter, in markets including Madison, Green Bay, Milwaukee and Minneapolis, Freyberg joined the WPT staff in 2003. In addition to many other awards, she is a three time winner of the Edward R. Murrow Award for her In Wisconsin reporting. Originally from Madison, Freyberg is a journalism graduate of UW Madison. She and her husband, Gary, have three children.

JoAnne Garrett
JoAnne Garrett

Jo Garrett retired as a producer for Wisconsin Public Television in June 2011.  During her 25+ year tenure at WPT, Garrett produced more than a dozen national documentaries for PBS including: "Rape: The Boundaries of Fear", "Houdini!", "A Lynching in Marion", "The Flood of '93", and "Follow the Flag". Garrett's work has been honored with awards from the World Television Festival, the International Film and Television Festival of New York, the Chicago Film Festival, and the Alfred I. DuPont Columbia Journalism Award for her 1992 PBS documentary, "Move Over: Women and the '92 Campaign".   Garrett’s more recent work on WPT’s news-magazine series, In Wisconsin, included a five part series on timber wolves which was awarded a Chicago/Midwest Emmy.

Adam Schrager
Adam Schrager

 Adam Schrager has covered politics for nearly 20 years, most recently at KUSA-TV in Denver. Previously, he worked in La Crosse, Madison and Milwaukee in the 1990’s. Schrager is the author of The Principled Politician, a biography of former Colorado Gov. Ralph Carr whose stand on behalf of Japanese Americans after Pearl Harbor would cost him his political career. The book led state lawmakers to name the new state justice center after the former Colorado chief executive. His latest book is The Blueprint: How the Democrats Won Colorado (and Why Republicans Everywhere Should Care), co-authored with Rob Witwer. It has been lauded by The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and political figures on both sides of the political spectrum.
In his career, Schrager has won numerous journalism accolades, including more than twenty Emmy awards. He taught a journalism class at the University of Denver and at Marquette University and has conducted dozens of seminars on the impact of the media on politics. Schrager has a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Northwestern University. He began his career in 1991 with CBS News in London and worked for numerous stations in Wisconsin before moving to Denver in 1999.
Schrager lives in Madison with his wife, Cathy, and their daughter, Harper, and their son, Clark.

Liz Koerner
Liz Koerner

Producer/Director Liz Koerner created programs for Wisconsin Public Television for almost 30 years until her retirement in June 2011.  In addition to her award-winning work on WPT’s news-magazine program, In Wisconsin, Koerner also produced Wisconsin Young Artists Compete: The Final Forte and WPT’s coverage ofConcerts on Square.  Liz Koerner passed away in June 2011 of leiomyosarcoma.  Her WPT friends and colleagues miss her terribly and will always be honored and grateful that she chose to spend her career with WPT sharing her story telling and show producing talents with the people of Wisconsin.

Andy Soth
Andy Soth

Andy Soth joined Wisconsin Public Television in 1991. In addition to producing stories for In Wisconsin, Soth is the content editor of WisconsinVote.org, Wisconsin Public Television and Radio’s election Web site.  Soth has worked on many WPT projects to inspire greater civic participation including serving as pilot producer for the education series democracy it is!, as well as work on the PBS series Citizens '96 and State of the Union. Soth contributed two segments to the national Emmy award-winning The :30-second Candidate and produced its companion Web site, www.pbs.org/30secondcandidate, a Yahoo "Pick of the Day" selection.
Soth's In Wisconsin reports have been honored by the Milwaukee Press Club, the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association, and the Northwest Broadcast News Association.

Soth graduated from Oberlin College where he majored in Art History and met his wife, Ruth.  They have two daughters and live in Madison.

Christine Sloan-Miller
Christine Sloan-Miller

Christine Sloan-Miller is the Executive Producer of News and Public Affairs for Wisconsin Public Television. Sloan-Miller oversees productions such as WPT's two weekly, local series, Here and Now and In Wisconsin, as well as debates, documentaries and live coverage of events such as the State of the State and State Budget Addresses.  She also oversees WPT arts and culture programming such as the Wisconsin Gardener series, Concerts on the Square and the 30 Minute Music Hour.  Sloan-Miller joined WPT in 1999 as the Associate Producer of WeekEnd.

Prior to moving to Madison, Sloan-Miller worked for seven years during the 1990's in Miami, including stints at Miami's CBS and ABC affiliates and the Archdiocese of Miami's television production studio as an award-winning producer.  She traveled in the mid-90's to Haiti, Honduras and Cuba to produce documentaries.

While with WPT, Sloan-Miller has received several awards from the Northwest Broadcast News Association and the Milwaukee Press Club. Under her guidance, the work produced by In Wisconsin has also won multiple Edward R. Murrow awards and four consecutive USC Annenberg Walter Cronkite National Awards for Excellence in Political Journalism.

Sloan-Miller was born in Minneapolis and lived in several small towns throughout Northern Wisconsin before returning to the Twin Cities to earn a B.A. in Speech-Communications from the University of Minnesota.

Sloan-Miller lives in Madison with a band of rowdy boys…her husband and two young sons. They only occasionally pine for the balmy South Florida weather.
