Canoe Museum
Thursday, February 24, 2011

All it takes is a few dreamers and a lot of hard work.  That's the take away message from this story from Spooner, Wisconsin.  Over the course of two dirty, dusty years a group of volunteers transformed an abandoned feed mill in this small northern town into a museum and classroom.  It's called the Wisconsin Canoe Heritage Museum and this unique place is attracting visitors from around the world.

Stormy Kromer Hat
Thursday, February 24, 2011

The Stormy Kromer is a hat invented more than a hundred years ago by Kaukauna native Stormy Kromer. It's a clever combination of a baseball hat with pull-down earflaps. It's a perfect fit for Wisconsin winters. The Kromer has been part of Wisconsin history and culture for more than a century, but it almost went extinct when production ceased. We'll show you how this iconic hat from Wisconsin’s Northwoods was rescued.

Cross Country Ski Training

February 26th marks the 38th running of the American Birkebeiner cross-country ski race in Sawyer County.  It’s a test run for U.S. Olympic hopefuls.

Developing Olympic level cross country skiers in the U.S. has been hampered by the lack of long term training programs.  Cross Country skiers often don’t reach full potential until their late twenties.  Now one group is setting young, Wisconsin skiers on a course for possible Olympic glory.  In Wisconsin reporter Art Hackett profiles these dedicated skiers at their training facility near Hayward.
