Cross Country Ski Training
February 26th marks the 38th running of the American Birkebeiner cross-country ski race in Sawyer County. It’s a test run for U.S. Olympic hopefuls.
Developing Olympic level cross country skiers in the U.S. has been hampered by the lack of long term training programs. Cross Country skiers often don’t reach full potential until their late twenties. Now one group is setting young, Wisconsin skiers on a course for possible Olympic glory. In Wisconsin reporter Art Hackett profiles these dedicated skiers at their training facility near Hayward.
