Educational Makeover

State and private colleges and universities are marketing higher education as a wise choice in hard economic times. They are also seeing record enrollment levels. UW Colleges hold "education makeover" contests giving away a free semester of tuition to a lucky winner, and getting the word out about what they have to offer to others.

Final Forte: Greg Riss

For the past 3 years Wisconsin Public Television has covered the statewide Bolz Young Artist Competition featuring gifted teen musicians performing with the Madison Symphony Orchestra. This year, an instrument usually found at the back of the stage is in the spotlight.

Ice Formations

Videographer Frank Boll captures the beauty and drama of Lake Superior's ice formations, naturally shaped by wind and water.

Ice Research

University of Wisconsin Limnology researchers give us a snapshot of Wisconsin's environmental future, frozen in time. What can the ice covered lakes of the frozen tundra reveal? Data on seven lakes in Vilas County reach back to the early 1980's. Information for Lake Mendota in Madison has been kept for more than 150 years.

Whooping Cranes

Loss of habitat and hunting put the whooping crane on the endangered species list in 1970. In Wisconsin reporter Jo Garrett has chronicled their comeback in recent years. Baraboo's International Crane Foundation, tracks whooping crane population and the Necedah National Wildlife Refuge provides a safe home for the birds.
